Studio Workshop with Anna K.
Anna came to me shortly following her graduation confessing her love of weddings and her big dreams of being a wedding planner. We hit it off immediately - I love her positive outlook and joy for seeing love stories come alive through our work with couples. Her energy is pure joy and completely infectious.
She started with me in the Spring of 2019 as an intern. She came on board as a contracted freelancer that Summer for the 2019 Season. I really don’t think I would have made it through the season without her.
We dived right into chatting all things industry and I learned so much about what she wants for her future, why it’s important to her to freelance and start her own business. Her parents are small business owners and she’s seen first hand how creating your own schedule affects your family dynamics. She’s currently tied to an Army private who is in his early stages of bootcamp. Her goal is to be able to work from anywhere he may travel and be able to still do what she loves: handle set up, styling and production for weddings.
We dug deep and got to the heart of what she’s hoping for and got to work pulling design pieces and textures for an upcoming shoot. We walked through how to choose details, why certain pieces are chosen over others and had so much fun mocking up a design board and inspiration storyboard for our Halloween Shoot.
We found this beautiful black laser cut lace and it inspired the remaining details and pieces for the shoot. I envision it adorning the bride and the bouquet. With touches of black on the table top set against very feminine textures and colors. I’m excited for all the partners on this upcoming shoot and details we are working through to bring it to life.
Anna loved getting into the design process and choosing florals and textures. I think linen swatches was her favorite. We discussed choosing linens, working with linen distributors and to cultivate relationships with them in order to facilitate great client communication when it comes to textiles and behind the scenes timeline and event production timeline. It’s eye-opening how important our back end needs to be - in order for the client experience to seem seamless and be joyous and stress free for clients.
I adored our time in the Studio together. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Anna. A big thank you to Anna for being the first to come for a workshop trial and allowing me to try my education hat on. Kate Spencer really knocked these images out of us gushing over the black and blush beauty that is to come. Anna will be with CD for the remaining 2019 season and into the 2020 wedding season. Kate will be joining us in the Fall to cover the Aisle Planner partnered Halloween Inspired Shoot.
With love, Cass
